Europe Peppol E-Invoicing Integration
Send and receive compliant e-invoices across Europe from the ERP you already use. We map your data to EN 16931 formats and connect to your Peppol Access Point, French approved platform or Poland's KSeF.
Which European e-invoicing mandates affect your business?
Public-sector e-invoicing (B2G) has applied across the EU for years. National B2B mandates are now spreading:
- Belgium: B2B e-invoicing between Belgian VAT-registered businesses, with Peppol as the default exchange network.
- Germany: businesses must be able to receive structured e-invoices (XRechnung, EN 16931-conformant ZUGFeRD), with issuing obligations phased in by business size.
- France: a phased reform requiring businesses to receive and issue e-invoices and report data through approved platforms connected to the tax administration.
- Spain: Verifactu invoicing-software rules, SII reporting and a B2B e-invoicing mandate under the Crea y Crece law. See Spain e-invoicing.
- Poland: mandatory use of the national KSeF platform, introduced in phases.
- Others: more member states are following, and the EU ViDA package extends structured e-invoicing to cross-border trade.
Non-EU suppliers to European customers, including GCC and Indian exporters, increasingly receive requests to invoice via Peppol too. Check the official sources below for current dates and scope.
How does Peppol e-invoicing work in Europe?
Peppol uses a 4-corner model: your system (corner 1) sends the invoice to your Access Point (corner 2), which looks up the receiver in the Peppol directory (SMP) and delivers it to the receiver's Access Point (corner 3), which passes it to the buyer (corner 4). Some countries add tax reporting on top, which is how 5-corner variants like the UAE's work.
National platforms such as KSeF work differently: invoices are submitted to a central government system, which assigns an ID and makes the invoice available to the buyer.
- Definition: Peppol Access Point
- A certified service provider that connects businesses to the Peppol network, sending and receiving documents using Peppol's transport protocol and identifiers.
Which European e-invoice formats do we support?
- Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 (UBL), the default Peppol invoice format based on EN 16931.
- XRechnung (UBL or CII) for Germany.
- ZUGFeRD / Factur-X hybrid PDF/A-3 with embedded XML for Germany and France.
- KSeF FA schema for Poland.
- National CIUS variants and validation rules (Schematron) maintained by each country.
How does Co-Mate connect your ERP to Peppol and national platforms?
We build a canonical invoice model from your ERP, with output modules per format and adapters for your Access Point or national platform. Inbound e-invoices are parsed and created as draft supplier bills for approval. Every document is validated with official rules before sending, and status is written back to the ERP.

Implementation steps
A predictable path from first call to live, monitored e-invoicing.
- 1
Country & format scoping
Identify the countries, entities and counterparties involved, and the formats each requires: Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, XRechnung, ZUGFeRD/Factur-X, KSeF FA schema or others.
- 2
Access Point / platform choice
Select a Peppol Access Point, French approved platform or KSeF connection route. We stay neutral and integrate with your choice.
- 3
EN 16931 mapping
Map ERP data to the European semantic standard and national extensions, including VAT categories, references and payment details.
- 4
Connector build
Build outbound and inbound flows: sending invoices, receiving supplier e-invoices into AP, and status handling.
- 5
Validation & testing
Validate with official Schematron rules and test with your Access Point or national platform sandbox.
- 6
Rollout & maintenance
Country-by-country rollout and updates as national rules and Peppol specifications evolve.
Common Europe e-invoicing challenges and how we handle them
| Challenge | Why it matters | How we handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Different national formats | One invoice may need Peppol BIS in Belgium, XRechnung in Germany and FA in Poland. | One canonical model with per-country output modules and official validation rules. |
| Receiving, not just sending | Inbound e-invoices must reach AP without manual re-keying. | Inbound flows that create draft supplier bills in your ERP with matching. |
| Participant identifiers | Sending fails if the buyer's Peppol ID is wrong. | SMP lookups and identifier validation in customer master data. |
| Hybrid PDF formats | ZUGFeRD/Factur-X need valid PDF/A-3 with embedded XML. | Generation and validation of hybrid documents from your existing layouts. |
